Complimentary cleaning and inspection services on our jewellery

Every piece of jewellery and every lifestyle is different. Some jewellery such as wedding bands are generally designed for constant wear. Some pieces are more delicate, so may need more protection. Here are some simple tips to help keep your precious jewels in the best condition:

  • We recommend taking your jewellery off during activities like gardening, gym sessions, or sports, where it might get scratched or damaged. When in doubt, it’s always a good idea to remove it and store it somewhere safe.
  • Try to avoid exposing your jewellery to chemicals like bleach or chlorine, as they can cause discolouration & corrosion, particularly for silver. If your jewellery does come into contact with these, such as while cleaning, swimming or in a hot tub, rinse it off with water. If needed, bring it to us for a professional re-polish.
  • It’s best to remove any delicate or gem set jewellery, especially those with claw settings, before going to bed to prevent snagging while you sleep.
  • Always bathe and apply lotions or perfumes before putting on your jewellery. This is especially important for organic gemstones like pearls and opals, as they can be sensitive to acids and even perspiration.
  • To prevent necklaces from tangling, fasten their clasps before storing them.

It is important to keep up necessary repairs to maintain the integrity of the jewellery.  To keep in tip top condition always remove your jewellery when applying scent, lotions and potions, or even better, always put your jewellery on last when getting dressed. Please note that chlorine and bleach is especially damaging to jewellery.

Ensure that you rinse off any chemicals that come into contact with your jewellery straight away to avoid build up which can make cleaning difficult. Store jewellery separately so that pieces do not tangle, rub or scratch against each other.

DIAMONDS & PRECIOUS GEMSTONES We recommend having your diamond or gemstone ring cleaned and inspected every 12 months or sooner if it gets knocked or damaged. These inspections help prevent the loss of a stone and extend the life of your jewellery.

WHITE GOLD If your white gold jewellery is rhodium-plated, then this will eventually wear off and need re-plating which we can carry out in our workshop.

EMERALDS/PEARLS/OPALS/CORAL These are all fragile and should not be subjected to water, heat , chemicals or trauma. Do not place in an ultra-sonic cleaner.

STERLING SILVER Sterling Silver tarnishes through a natural reaction called oxidisation. Surprisingly it is less likely to happen as quickly if regularly worn. Remove silver jewellery before entering a swimming pool, hot tub or spa.

CLEANING Clean your silver jewellery in warm soapy water, ensuring that it is rinsed thoroughly and dried before storing. Alternatively polish your silver jewellery with a soft cloth.

Our knowledgeable team will advise you about your individual piece of jewellery, please ask if you have any questions at all.

If you need further advice you can bring your jewellery along for us to take a look!
